The Central Shenandoah EMS Council Local Protocol Program provides instruction to EMS providers in the region on specific local protocols that differ from the Virginia EMS Education Standards (VEMSES) and the National EMS Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Responder and Emergency Medical Technician levels. Modules of the curriculum include cardiac arrest management, 12-lead ECG acquisition, King LT airway, use of glucagon and trauma triage. Additionally, the program provides an annotated review of the all sections of the protocols, including patient assessment, adult and pediatric dysrhythmia management, medical and trauma protocols, procedure guides, drug formulary entries and field references. The goal of the program is to have BLS providers who can provide advanced interventions for sick and injured patients in the Central Shenandoah EMS region.
